Just Like Riding a Bike

I rode a bike yesterday for the first time in... oh... maybe 12 years? Maybe even more? I used to ride bikes all the time as a kid in our housing development, but there were far fewer cars on the road then... plus those roads are a bit wider than the ones around my neighborhood now. So, it was a little terrifying as I tried to remember how to use a hand brake on a 10-speed bike while going down a hill, headed towards a stop sign. Also, I don't remember bikes being as wobbly as they are. Not that I fell over or anything, but sometimes going over manhole covers and speed humps were a little tricky. Oh yeah, and helmets... that's new since I last rode a bike.

We didn't go around too far yesterday... just a couple loops through the neighborhood. It's hard to go too far without having to deal with actual traffic, which is something I'm not all that interested in. Dealing with a moving car or two here and there, okay. Dealing with actual flowing traffic, not so much. But I'm excited to check out the bike trails this weekend, assuming the weather holds up. I think crashing into moving bicyclists might be less painful than crashing into moving cars, so maybe I can relax a bit and get my bike legs back.

Comments:

I've kinda thought about getting on a bike. I'd really like to get one of those little kid trailer things. I think my daughter would dig it.

Remembering the times I had growing up, I've been wanting a bike for a while too. I finally decided today would be my day and???? IT'S RAINING!

Have fun getting your bike legs back!
