Paging Dr. Google...

I am starting to come down with a cold, I can feel it. My throat is drippy and sore. I have a headache. My ears were feeling a little pressurized and funny yesterday. And I'm dreading what's sure to come in the next few days.

Yes, it's only a cold. It's not like when I had the flu last year. But I can get pretty miserable when I have a cold, especially if it becomes a chest cold because it can hang around for weeks and I get super tired and lazy from the lack of oxygen. This comes at a terrible time, when every weekend in March is jam-packed with activities, I've got a birthday coming up that I want to be able to celebrate with full force, and I really, really need to pick up the motivation to work out after a not-so-hot February.

So! This is where you can help me out... do you have any sure fire ways to stop a cold before it really hits? I've got some Halls zinc throat drops and I'm planning on drinking lots of tea to ease my sore throat, but I want to kick this cold before it has a chance to settle in and take over my body. I want to show this cold who's boss.

Comments:

Sorry to hear you're not feeling so hot! I don't have anything sure fire, but loading up on Vitamin C pills and getting a lot of sleep (like, going to bed at 7:30 or 8 p.m.) always seem to help me out.

SAD! Mark is still sick (has been since early last week), and I am feeling just a little under the weather myself. I agree with Kate - lots of vitamin C and most importantly, SLEEP! I promise you, a couple of nights of good, solid sleep, and you'll be feeling much better.

I make a very simple veggie soup which has two main ingredients...GARLIC and CAYENNE. This is more preventative than curative, but it may help.

And baths always make me feel better. Sorry you're not feeling well.

I'd go with the zinz and the Vitamin C. And I'd recommend nature's own pick-me-up, a dose of B vitamins (especially B-12 and B-6.)

Whenever I feel under the weather at school (probably from some sick student!), I go out and get some B-12, and I feel great the next day! You can get B-12 and B-6 in a Five Hour Energy drink, but that has caffeine, so you might want to go elsewhere (an Odawalla drink, maybe?)
